FAST Policy and Procedures - Off-Campus Physical Education Credit

 Background

This policy has been adopted to improve communications between the FAST coaching staff, the swimmer's school, and the parents. This is also to ensure the integrity of FAST reporting of grades for off-campus physical education credit. In the past there has been confusion about the procedures to follow and swimmers did not receive proper credit.

 Procedure

  • Parents wishing Off Campus P.E. credit for their swimmer must contact the FAST Program Director Ron Forrest before the beginning of the grading period to apply. The request must be in writing. E-mail is preferred.
  • The request must include a phone number for the P.E. teacher.
  • The FAST Program Director will speak to the P.E. teacher considering the P.E. credit. It will be made clear to the P.E. teacher that all forms must have the Program Director's signature to be valid.
  • Based on the phonecall, the FAST Program Director will communicate to the swimmer's coach and parents whether credit is allowed or not.
  • The swimmer's coach shall keep strict attendance records for this swimmer.
  • The swimmer's coach will determine the appropriate grade shall be given just like in school.
  • The parents will provide school-issued forms to be filled out by the swimmer's coach at the end of the grading period. Alternately, a FAST form may be used.
  • All school-issued forms will be filled out by the swimmer's coach. The FAST Program Director also has a FAST form which may be used.
  • The swimmer's coach will obtain the signature of the FAST Program Director.
  • The swimmer's coach or FAST Program Director will fax the form (with Program Director's signature) directly to the contact person at the school.

 Exceptions

  • No exceptions except to align with school requirements. Contact FAST Program Director in advance.

 Policy

  • The FAST Program Director must speak to the P.E. teacher considering the P.E. credit before permission will be given from FAST.
  • The swimmer's attendance must align to grading period requirements.
  • Once the form(s) have been given to the coach, they will not be returned to the parents.
  • If a form is incorrectly filed and the FAST Program Director is contacted by the PE teacher, FAST will direct them them issue an "I" (Incomplete) until the forms are submitted properly.
  • Parents shall not send in a Off Campus P.E.grading form directly to the school.
  • All Off Campus P.E. forms must be signed off by the FAST Program Director.
