Come On Over! Jump Right In!

Happy August, Adult Lessons Swimmers!

Hoping everyone had fun learning to bob last week! We're coming to the penultimate week of our series on deep water learning (for now, anyways). If you need a refresher, feel free to start back at the beginning here. We've floated and sunk and climbed down underwater ladders, all while learning our surroundings and perhaps learning more about ourselves in the process. All these different exercises and tips have been in place to give you comfort, or at least cordiality, in deep water scenarios. Most of this series, we've spent our time discussing how to feel at ease when your feet don't touch the bottom. We've worked through some of the pitfalls and have shown you how to mitigate them. Now, it's time for some fun - let's jump right in!

Realistically, this should be the fun part. We should be able to enjoy the process of jumping in and getting to frolic around in the deep water. However, understandably, some may still feel dubious or uneasy. Which is why we need to put all our skills together. As you'll see at the beginning of the video, and around the 3:00 mark, your body naturally floats. That should give at least some initial peace of mind. And, we've learned the skills to rise to the surface during our lesson on bobs (linked above). That sweeping motion from overhead to our side will allow us to pop right up in one fell swoop. If you get distraught in any way on your first attempt, you also have float transitions to lean on to ensure you can get from your stomach to your back. All these skills have compounded to create a fun fresh environment in the deep water!

Fact of the week: Jumping in is scary. It is PERFECTLY OKAY to feel that way. It's deep, it can be dark, it's the unknown. That lack of personal control typically leads to many shying away from any open water or diving well adventures. We've spent these last handful of weeks trying to mitigate some of these fears. Of course, there are always life jackets, floats, and other devices to ensure your safety, but our mission is more than that. We want to give YOU control on your environment, and not the other way around (click for more info on jumping in). Conquering your fears, learning life-saving skills, and having fun are all pieces of our deep water puzzle to help you enjoy your next journey!

How do I move up? Attend as many of your classes as possible, communicate with your instructor on your struggles, goals, and where you're at in our curriculum. We also have many adults who purchase a gym membership to 24 Hour Fitness or LA Fitness while they are taking lessons so they can practice 2-3 times between classes.

Looking forward to the start of a new season! It's the best time of the year to be learning how to swim as an adult!
