Mobilize Your Progress, Add Mobility!
Hi all you stiff and inflexible fish (myself included so don't feel alone),
We continue to make taking care of our bodies a priority with the twilight of the Short Course season upon us. Whether you plan on competing at your local district and/or regional meet, or you're just continuing a training regimen for fitness purposes, we'd like to provide you with what could be an important addition to your repertoire: mobility work. We often feel as though we don't have time to stretch, and/or it's on the bottom of our list of priorities. Yet, it's become SO important to an athlete's life, particularly with more and more modern research. No, you do not need to be the next rubber-built gymnast, but adding a little flexibility and stability to your joints can provide a world of benefit!
Also, for those of you preparing to compete, don't forget to freshen up on your MINDFULNESS and VISUALIZATION, as we've talked about in the past.

Mobility for Athletes: More Important Than Ever

It's okay if you don't do the exact follow-along, nor read the article that I have listed. However, what I want you as a reader to understand is the benefits that mobility work can provide. Just 3 days a week is more than the current zero - not to be accusatory - that you may be doing. How can we find more comfort in our butterfly without limber shoulders? How can our breaststroke kick truly improve if we haven't found how to open our hips? A lack of mobility is yet another barrier to further swimming success; and one can mitigate such a barrier by taking the TIME to engage in mobility-improving activities - simultaneously to television, or music, or other if needed.
Fact of the week: People of all ages in today's society are often confined to a desk or table for hours on end. Or, you may watch television, play video games, or curl into your chair for the next novel in your series. Ergonomically, this is unfavorable in excess. Youth and adult swimmers, alike, can find serious benefits from mobility training. Not only does the latter provide benefits to posture, but also improves circulation, decreases injury risk, AND ultimately gives YOU more freedom. As we get older, our bodies continue to turn on us, so why not start now and give yourself a head start! Check out our YouTube and Blog page for more!
How does my child move up? Come to every swim class, bring your progress report, earn those stickers, and ask your child's instructor or location's deck manager if you have questions.
